Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Sharon Ffolkes Abrahams has identified the Logistic Hub initiative as one of the solutions to economic concerns facing some local businesses.

Addressing Tuesday’s opening of the Caribbean Millers’ Association 19th Annual General Meeting, Minister Ffolkes Abrahams said the Jamaica Logistics Hub initiative will facilitate expansion of businesses and make them more profitable, while boosting job creation. She says the initiative is expected to “provide numerous business opportunities for support services to companies and persons working in and around special economic zones and airports, logistic parks and industrial parks”.

Ffolkes Abrahams says it is also expected that the special economic zones to be established will foster large transnational corporations engaged in a variety of logistics activities, warehousing and manufacturing, and add value to semi-finished or intermediate goods that were destined for global markets. She says “these zones will facilitate new and innovative commercial ventures for the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector, opening up new opportunities for job creation and allow more of our firms to link into global trading platforms”.
