‘Accept More Students Under NYS Programme’ says Floyd Green

Published

on

Minister of State in the ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Floyd Green wants Small and Medium Sized businesses to do more in facilitating the placement of young people in their organizations.

The State minister made the call during yesterday’s launch of the National Youth Service Summer Programme (NYS).

He encouraged those businesses already on board to increase the number of young people they accept and those who are yet to get involved in the initiative to “take at least one intern,” as the NYS seeks to engage 6,000 young persons in the programme this year.

‘I know it is very difficult for small and medium enterprises (to take on these young persons), but the sort of social service that you are doing and the fact that we are helping to make Jamaica a better place, cannot be tied down to a monetary value,” he said.

Under the programme, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), private and public sector organisations agree to the placement of students to work in their organizations.

The placement period consists of two three-week phases, which will run from July 4 to 22, and August 8 to 26 this year.
