Kingston, Jamaica, June 27, 2019: Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) will host the 4th International Business and Management Conference at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel from July 10 through 12, 2019, under the theme, Delivering on the Promise of Entrepreneurship: Critical Perspectives on Research, Practice, and Thinking in the Fourth Economy.
Convenor of the conference Senior Research Fellow at the MSBM Dr. Indianna Minto-Coy expounds “the conference theme addresses the pressing need to reflect on the experiences of Jamaica, and other Small and Developing States as it relates to entrepreneurship from a local and global perspective. It will also take stock of what is needed to nudge the country and region towards the results realized in other settings where entrepreneurship has undergirded growth and development.”
Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon Nigel Clarke will deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony scheduled for Wednesday July 10 beginning at 6:00pm.
A range of notable local and international speakers from industry, academia, the public sector and civil society will make presentations over the course of the 3-day event. These include Chairman of ICD Group and First Angels, Joseph M Matalon, Entrepreneurs Across Borders President Kevin Langley, Director of the Adams Center for Entrepreneurship at Florida Atlantic University, Roland Kidwell, Managing Director of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Mrs. Marlene Street Forrest, Gary Peart, CEO of Mayberry Investments Limited, Tyrone Wilson, President & CEO eMedia Interactive Group, Michelle Chong, CEO Honey Bun Limited, Rory-Craig Walker, CEO/Founder Jamaican Care Packages and Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Agriculture, Floyd Green who will deliver the plenary address at the closing ceremony.
The programme will also include a number of networking sessions for entrepreneurs, special plenaries, interactive sessions, and an Impact Investment Master Class aimed at foundations. and businesses wishing to revitalize their CSR.
Participants to the conference will also be treated to a dynamic cultural enrichment programme, which includes experiences of social and cultural entrepreneurship through the Conference Marketplace and an organized tour of Trench Town (the Birthplace of Reggae Music)!
Executive Director Dr. David McBean stated that “Mona School of Business and Management is mindful of its role in fostering the development of this Fourth Economy; by providing a space for constructive dialogue towards identifying challenges and related solutions, as well as by generating critical research, knowledge and training as it relates to Jamaica and other small island developing states.”
He added that as an area of research, teaching and practice, entrepreneurship has also assumed greater currency in the last decade or two, given the recognized link among entrepreneurship. Innovation and development.
The Conference brings together SMEs, entrepreneurs, investors and other business practitioners and scholars, the public sector, and civil society, to share best practices, interrogate theory, concepts and methodologies, and engender new ideas at the intersection of business, philanthropy, capital, innovation and society.
Included among the themes to be covered at the conference are Impact Investing; Cultural and Creative Entrepreneurship in the City; The Legal and Regulatory Environment for Social Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. Other topics include, Growing and Strengthening Youth Entrepreneurship, Gender and Entrepreneurship, Managing and Growing Family-Owned Businesses, Going Public: Funding and Growing Business, Unlocking Entrepreneurship: AirBnB, Audit, Legal and Regulatory Issues for Start-up and Growth, and Funding Entrepreneurship and SMEs.

Established in 2012, Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) evolved from the merger of the former Mona School of Business (MSB) – which had a 25-year history of delivering master’s level business management education – and the Department of Management Studies (DOMS), with its own rich 42-year history of delivering undergraduate and graduate management programmes.
