The Board of Barita Investments Limited (Barita) has advised that Mr. Ian McNaughton, Managing Director and Company Secretary of Barita has resigned from the company effective December 24, 2019 to pursue other interests. Mr. McNaughton joined Barita in 2008 as Financial Controller and Company Secretary and was promoted to General Manager in 2009 before assuming the role of Managing Director in 2013, reporting into the Executive Chairman, Rita Humphries-Lewin. Mr. McNaughton provided assistance with both the transition of ownership of Barita to Cornerstone in August 2018 and leadership succession. Mr. McNaughton will remain accessible to the Board for the remainder of the current financial year ending September 2020.
A part of the succession planning for the Group, Ms. Paula Barclay, was appointed to the position of General Manager of Barita in early 2019 and will now assume the leadership of Barita’s operations. Ms. Barclay has extensive banking and investment management experience, with her previous assignment being General Manager at First Global Bank Limited. Prior to joining Barita, Ms. Barclay held several roles at the GraceKennedy Group including, Group Treasurer, Managing Director of First Global Leasing as well as General Manager and Credit Risk Officer at First Global Bank.
Mr. Jason Chambers, who is Managing Director of Barita Unit Trusts Management Company Limited (BUTM), and Chief Investment Officer of Cornerstone Group, has been appointed to the Board of Barita effective December 24th, 2019. Mr. Chambers has over 18 years of experience, spanning the range of securities trading, investment and treasury management, corporate finance, and corporate banking. Most recently, he held the positions of Vice President Investment Management and Vice President Corporate Finance within the GraceKennedy Group.
Mr. Matthew Hogarth has been appointed to the Board of Barita effective January 2, 2020. Mr. Hogarth brings significant expertise in corporate governance given his current roles as Chairman of the Corporate Governance Committees of both the Jamaica Stock Exchange Limited and Carreras Limited. Mr. Hogarth is also a Partner at MH&CO, specializing in the areas of banking, finance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate structuring and governance, taxation, trusts, real estate and business advisory. Mr. Hogarth is called to the Bar in New York, Jamaica, the BVI, Barbados, and Saint Lucia.
Mr. Dane Brodber CFA, CAIA, FRM, MBA, was appointed Chief Risk Officer of the Cornerstone Group effective November 1, 2019. He will have oversight responsibility of risk management for Barita and BUTM. Mr. Brodber has over 16 years of experience in the financial services industry with extensive experience in market risk management, strategy, business intelligence, and financial analysis. Mr. Brodber previously served as Regional Director, market risk management with Scotiabank Jamaica Limited where he worked for over 12 years.
Mr. Gavin Jordan, CPA, MSc., Chief Financial Officer, Cornerstone Group, will be appointed as a director of BUTM effective January 2020. Prior to his current role, Mr. Jordan was the CFO for GraceKennedy Foods (USA) and Divisional CFO, GK Foods. Mr. Jordan was also Finance Director and Company Secretary of Carreras and CFO of First Global Bank, where he was ultimately responsible for the strategic leadership of the accounting and financial reporting functions.
Mr. Weldon Maddan, CFA, MBA, Chief Operating Officer of the Cornerstone Group, has senior oversight of the operations of the Strategic Business Units. Mr. Maddan has over 15 years of banking experience at senior executive levels with Citigroup (Credit Cards, Consumer Lending and Retail Banking) with assignments in Canada, UK and Poland. He has held CFO responsibilities for Online Marketing, Citi Partners and the Customer Contact Leveraging business units at Citi Cards. His work experience spans marketing, risk and operations. Mr. Maddan received a BSc in Engineering from Boston University, an MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School and earned his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2007.
Ms. Stephanie Murdock, MSc, SCM, PMP, joined Barita as Senior Human Resource Executive in October 2019. Ms. Murdock joined the team from National Export Import Bank where she held the position of General Manager Corporate Services with responsibility for Human Resource, Administration Procurement and Information Technology. With over twenty (20) years’ experience in the areas of Strategic Human Resource Development, Change Management, Leadership Development and Industrial Relations, Ms. Murdock was recently recognized as one of seven Jamaicans to participate in the Advanced Leadership Development, Caribbean Emerging Leaders Dialogue, sponsored by McGill University, held in Ottawa, Canada.
Ms. Malindo Wallace, Group Legal Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer, has been appointed Company Secretary for Barita and Barita Unit Trusts Management Company Limited effective December 24, 2019. Ms. Wallace held several key roles at GraceKennedy Limited, including Legal Officer (Group), Senior Manager, Treasury and Corporate Finance, and Treasury Manager.
