Claro TV launched DTH under its own platform in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico Telephone (PRT), América Móvil’s affiliate in this country, launched its so-called Claro TV DTH offer. However, according to what the President of the company, Enrique Ortiz, told the local media, the long term goal will keep on being IPTV offer. The company is waiting for a license to be issued by the Telecommunications Regulating Board.

PRT keeps on differentiating Puerto Rican business from Central America’s. In this country, a platform and individual headends, and a different satellite (AMC-21) are utilized. “We are the only satellite business provider that generates its signal from here, the other providers do it from the United States; that is the reason why the quality of both our signal and audio is better than our competitors'”, Ortiz stated.

Claro TV’s DTH service in Puerto Rico is its only Pay-TV offer; therefore, its business model is different from other countries where DTH is a complement. PRT will offer a bulk package made up by 130 channels, PPV and HD. The service, that required a USD 70 million investment, will be available from USD 34. Claro offers DTH in El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala, and has recently got its license in Panama.
