The Jamaica Cancer Society, Black River Hospital and children with cancer across the island are now recipients of J$$43,14,738.00 million raised through the 2016 Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run which took place on Sunday.
According to Sagicor’s Vice President of Group Marketing, Ingrid Card, the company will now be able to purchase the mammography machine for the Cancer Society’s mobile unit to conduct breast cancer screenings in the most rural areas of Jamaica. “The Black River Hospital will also get some crucial equipment needed for its Paediatric unit and we will be able to assist with life-saving equipment and supplies for children with cancer across the island”.
In its 17 year history, Sigma Run has raised approximately J$166 million for child and health care facilities in Jamaica.
Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run maintains its rank as the largest 5k road race in the Caribbean and is one of the largest charitable movements locally.
Approximately 24,000 registrants amassed just under 300 corporate, non-corporate, tertiary, high and primary school teams and individuals who signed up to Walk, Run or Wheelchair.
Scotiabank won the award for the largest corporate tea.
Ricardo Nuncio of Desnoes & Geddes Foundation took the executive run award; while the corporate run male team was presented to Wilfred Wilson of the Urban Development Corporation with the female corporate Run team title going to Gianna Anderson of the University Of The West Indies.
