What is the all-new 7er like in the real world, and should you go down to your local dealer right now?
Just like the S-Class, this big BMW is the type of car you want to show to your mates in the parking lot. It does so many things that have nothing to do with driving. Some might call them pointless gadgets. The exterior design of the new 7 Series, though beautifully executed, is conservative and evolutionary. Bigger than an S-Class, the new 7 looks smaller and lacks its commanding on-road presence.
Inside is the most sumptuous BMW interior ever, beautifully finished and tastefully rendered.
“The interior is incredible and I hope that translates to future BMWs. There was lots of great technology, from all of the driver-assist features to the gesture controls for the stereo and phone.”
The Learjetesque back seats offer a footrest, massage, and an armrest-mounted Touch Command tablet, depending on which package you opt for. Don’t forget the 10-inch screens on the back of the front seats. BMW couldn’t have been more obvious about which market it designed this car for if LCDs displayed “To China, with love” on start-up.

The big BMW is surprisingly entertaining to drive, considering it packs more gadgets than an Apple store. There are plenty of mega sedans trying to strike a balance between East and West. The new 7-series just happens to be better at it than most. BM
