CAN IAN LYN WRESTLE CONTROL OF JAMAICAN MORNING RADIO?

“I evoke negative emotion in people in Jamaica because this country is full of hypocracy and lies and some don’t like it when I speak the uncomfortable truth. Others love the truth, therefore evoking a positive response from persons who are happy that I have the courage to speak what they only think”.

“You either like him or merely tolerate him – but he’s not going away. He has that aura that makes people pay attention”

: “The young generation of Jamaicans has to take control of themselves and this country. The older generation doesn’t have a clue. They must be told the truth - the truth about political corruption, business corruption, tax evasion and religious hypocracy in order to find solutions to problems that are sinking Jamaica.”

Barbara Ellington in a recent Jamaica Gleaner article used these adjectives to describe Ian Lyn. “He’s controversial, outspoken, aggressive, bold, humorous but humble at the same time and ebullient – you either like him or merely tolerate him – but he’s not going away. He has that aura that makes people pay attention.”

Ian Lyn is not what one would call a regular Jamaican; as a matter of fact he is what many Jamaicans would like to be. Fearless and speak it as he see it. “My mother taught me to say what’s on my mind and Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan taught me to speak the truth regardless of the circumstances” he said to Ellington in the Gleaner article.

But is this enough to make him a credible voice on Jamaican radio, yes radio. Businessuite has it from reliable sources that Ian Lyn is about to launch a morning drive time radio programme. The details are not all worked out yet according to the source, who says that Ian is of the view that he can do this and make a big success of it. In the same Gleaner article we probably got a glimpse of what he has in mind: “The young generation of Jamaicans has to take control of themselves and this country. The older generation doesn’t have a clue. They must be told the truth – the truth about political corruption, business corruption, tax evasion and religious hypocracy in order to find solutions to problems that are sinking Jamaica.”

One thing is certain, he does one hell of job marketing and promoting himself and he really gets attention. Only recently He did a video expose on the Jamaica hermitage dam, highlighting why there was a water shortage problem and actually blaming both the community members and the authorities for the state of things. As would be expected the video went viral and spread like the proverbial wild fire on Facebook and YouTube. It is this type of public reaction he is hoping to bring to his proposed morning radio programme.

But does he have what it takes to make it on radio? Well he firmly believes so. “I evoke negative emotion in people in Jamaica because this country is full of hypocracy and lies and some don’t like it when I speak the uncomfortable truth. Others love the truth, therefore evoking a positive response from persons who are happy that I have the courage to speak what they only think”.

This Morning with Emily Crooks and Naomi Francis from the Cliff Hughes led Nationwide News Network,

According to our source, Ian Lyn has his sight set on morning drive time radio, regarded as the most premium of the radio market segments. He will be going up against heavy weights, which have many years of experience under their belts. These include – This Morning with Emily Crooks and Naomi Francis from the Cliff Hughes led Nationwide News Network, Ronnie Thwaites on Power 106, Breakfast Club on Newstalk, not to mention the RJR powerhouse comprising Alan Magnus on RJR and Francois on Fame, Jenny Jenny of Hitz and of course Elise Kelly on IRIE FM, just to name a few that readily comes to mind.

Radio is severely challenged, financially at the moment. According to unconfirmed reports from the sector most of the radio stations are not achieving budgets with many operating in the red for the past year or more. So why now, well that’s the million dollar question we asked, but an answer was not yet forthcoming from Ian. Stay tuned he says, you will hear more in the coming weeks or days.

So we wait for Mr. Ian Lyn to say what’s next. One thing is certain he has gotten our attention.
