Bankers Association of Trinidad and Tobago president Anya Schnoor has hit back at Opposition Leader Kamla-Persad Bissessar for statements made regarding bank fees and charges, indicating that over 70 per cent of banks’ income was derived from fees and charges.
Schnoor responded saying: “The fact is bank fees as a percentage of total operating income for all banks ranges from 16 to 17 per cent, not 70 per cent as stated in your letter. In addition, interest spreads in banks are at their lowest levels in over a decade, with mortgage rates at their lowest level in three decades.”BM
