Digicel Does Not Need Carlos Slim in Pending Liberty Global C&W Battle.

Published

on

Denis O’Brien has shot down the possibility of any form of consideration between himself and past competitors such as Carlos Slim (with whom he had competed with during the times of Claro in Jamaica) should the Liberty Global-Cable and Wireless talks are successful. According to the Digicel Chairman, Digicel is a brand of its own. He says he does not foresee any alliances with any other entity as Digicel is successful enough to stand on its own against any challenger.

O’Brien says “it is up to the Shareholders of Cable and Wireless to say whether it is a good deal, Digicel is an independent company. We will not be entering any partnership or talks with anybody. We have our own strategy with a big investment plan for Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. We keep going on our own.

We prefer to go on our own and we don’t see the need for any kind of partnership whatsoever”. BM
