Circle of 99 Global Business Summit Coming to New York August 10, 2019

New York, New York: What happens when collaborative connectors and change champions; dreamers, doers and disruptors; influencers and inspirers, strategists and solutionists all gather? Personal Transformation? Business Reengineering? Global Impact? This is without question the intent when the Circle of 99 Global Business Summit comes to New York.

Slated for August 10, 2019, at the New York Marriott Downtown, located at 85 West Street at Albany Street, from 10am -4 pm, this summit promises to provide attendees in the room, and online viewers as well, with actionable tools and replicable strategies that can be readily executed post-summit. With knowledge circles led by some of the most innovative, brilliant business minds and thought leaders from all industries, from around the globe, the Circle of 99 Global Business Summit has been specifically designed to equip entrepreneurs, business leaders and nonprofit organizations pondering social enterprise with tactics that garner results. Knowledge Circles will focus on four themes: Wellness (tools for prevention, feeling well and thriving health-wise), Work (tools for an engaging career, aspiring entrepreneurs and for those aiming to scale in quest of entrepreneurial growth), Wealth (tools for maximizing money, for creating generational wealth and purposeful business profits), and Winning (tools for defining and maintaining a mindset that fosters the achievement of personal and business goals).

The Circle of 99 Global Business Summit is being hosted by Author and Global Solutionist, Anita Davis-DeFoe. Her Circle of 99 initiatives encompasses three arenas: Circle of 99 for Business, Circle of 99 for Youth, and Circle of 99 Media.

When asked about the upcoming event and these Circle of 99 initiatives, she shared: “Globally, a circle represents completeness and wholeness, much like Ubuntu and it meaning a mindset of total humanity, caring for others. Nine is as complete as the circle, for when you multiply the number 9 by any number and add the sum you will always keep getting the number 9. This is spiritually powerful to me, and I find myself often pondering what could be if that level of completeness could be achieved in life, work and business. So for me, if we are able to create collaborative circles fueled by compassion, shared information, and authentic purpose, I believe that solutions can be formulated, sustainable change achieved, and purposeful business profits that offer revenues and results is possible.

Smiling Davis-Defoe continued, “Yes I know this is wishful thinking, but I cannot stop believing in the greater good. Yes, silo thinking often overpowers the collaborative mindset, and yes often people get deeply hurt as they attempt to collaborate so they become hesitant, but when a resilient circle is formed, it can withstand pulls and tugs from all directions and still maintain it strength. Circle of 99 initiatives are aimed at demonstrating this power in both our personal and business journeys. All are invited to join us in the circle.”

On July 1, 2019, all confirmed knowledge circle champions will be shared, each selected because of the value-added personal and business tools they will share with summit attendees. Hundreds of Buyer Companies and Delegates Expected at CHTA Travel Marketplace

More than 150 buyer companies and 1,000 delegates are expected to convene in Montego Bay for the 42nd staging of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Caribbean Travel Marketplace from May 20 to 23.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday (March 14), at the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) in New Kingston, President, CHTA, Nicola Madden-Greig, said a special effort is being made to bring more new buyer delegates to participate in the event.

“We have expanded to target buyers from Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia,” said Mrs. Madden-Greig.

“We will also have for the first time a complete stand-alone MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) itinerary with 20 meeting planners attending the first ever CHTA Caribbean MICE exchange,” she added.

The CHTA President pointed out that the MICE market has “tremendous potential” for the region, with more than US$900 billion generated worldwide in 2023.

It is expected to double that revenue by 2032.

Mrs. Madden-Greig also indicated that 50 regional and international media representatives are expected on the island to engage with Caribbean delegates and “share the news of the richness and diversity of our region”.

The 42nd CHTA Caribbean Travel Marketplace will feature three components – the Business of Tourism (The Caribbean Travel Forum on May 20), the Marketing of Tourism (CHTA Travel Marketplace May 21-22) and the Community of Tourism (Responsible Tourism Day on May 23).

Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, said that the CHTA Caribbean Travel Marketplace is “a great moment of anticipation”.

“It is not an event in the context of a singular activity, but it is a great opportunity for us as a Caribbean people, not just to showcase the strength and power of our assets but also provide leadership with innovation,” he added.

The Minister said that he is excited about the various components of the CHTA Caribbean Travel Marketplace.

“The region is ready to take a new perspective on itself in this post-COVID era, to grow tourism to another level and the three key points that [Mrs. Madden-Greig] dealt with, tourism and business, tourism and marketing, but responsible tourism is perhaps at the heart of the innovation that we speak about,” said Minister Bartlett.

Caribbean Travel Marketplace affords tourism suppliers the opportunity to meet face to face with wholesalers from around the world selling Caribbean vacation travel.

The main objective is for suppliers and buyers to conduct negotiations that benefit the region.

Jamaica To Reveal New Outsourcing Brand At Upcoming Global Digital Services Conference

Jamaica is set to launch its re-imagined outsourcing proposition to hundreds of entrepreneurs, business leaders and executives from multinational corporations, global startups and trade promotion organisations when the country hosts the upcoming Outsource to Latin America and the Caribbean Global Digital Services Summit (O2LAC) from June 14 -15 in Montego Bay.

Jamaica will be the first English-speaking nation from the Latin America and Caribbean bloc to host this Summit, which will be its ninth edition. O2LAC was created by the Inter-American Development Bank’s Integration and Trade Sector with the goal of unleashing the region’s full potential in the global digital services sector. Business leaders will learn about breakthroughs in emerging technologies such as AI. They will discover advanced capabilities in strategic Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO), and Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO), as well as identify new business opportunities through B2B and B2G matchmaking events.

As Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator the Honourable, Aubyn Hill, explains that “O2LAC presents a prime opportunity for the Government of Jamaica and its partners to introduce Jamaica’s re-energized global digital services sector offerings to the largest gathering of prospective services buyers and suppliers in the region. We have been working hard to enhance and elevate Jamaica’s product offerings and the launch of our new Global Campaign at O2LAC will communicate our unique value proposition, and cement our brand in the minds of executives, entrepreneurs and experts as the superior option for global businesses seeking to upscale their outsourcing goals and growth results”.

Jamaica is already a mature Outsourcing location and home to companies such as Conduent, Itel, Sutherland Global, Sagility, Startek and IBEX. Most of these companies provide services to some of the top Fortune 50 businesses. With over 85 companies currently in operation and annual revenue close to US$1billion, while employing over 60,000 people, the country has the largest Outsourcing Sector in the English-speaking Caribbean. Special Economic Zone incentives allow for duty concessions and reduced corporate income taxes, and continuous investments in telecoms and electricity infrastructure ensure stable power and broadband capabilities that make Jamaica a destination of choice.

The new National Investment Policy includes a raft of economic policies, initiatives and support measures designed to make it easier to establish businesses in the country. O2LAC is expected to attract up to 600 local, regional and international attendees. Jamaica to host international Conference on Inclusive Insurance in October

Jamaica will be the host to the International Conference on Inclusive Insurance (ICII) scheduled to take place 24 th  to the 28 th  of October 2022 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. The hybrid Conference is being hosted by the Insurance Association of Jamaica in partnership with the Munich Re Foundation and the Microinsurance Network. It will attract over 400 international delegates from over 50 countries.

President of the Insurance Association of Jamaica, (IAJ) Sharon Donaldson stated that it is the first time in 20 years that the conference is being held in the Caribbean and Jamaica is extremely proud to be the host country.

The conference will provide a platform for stakeholders to present and discuss issues, policies, and state-of-the-art solutions for efficient, sustainable, and inclusive insurance products; and promote the development and proliferation of good-value insurance for emerging economies. It also aims to enhance awareness of the demand for insurance in the low-income segment and its potential.

According to Donaldson many countries have large informal sectors which face a range of challenges, including the death of a breadwinner, precarious traditional livelihoods, compromised food security and damage to homes and infrastructure due to the climate crisis. Also citing the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected children’s education and caused many small businesses to close their doors, she said “many low-income groups are often unaware of steps they can take to protect themselves financially. The insurance industry has a critical role to play to provide innovative insurance and financial products and education geared to these groups” she said.

Dirk Reinhard, Vice Chair, Munich Re Foundation and Chairman of the Steering Committee of the ICII 2022 said that risk management including insurance plays a key role to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Recent floods, droughts and wildfires have shown that climate change threatens the livelihood of billions of people that do not have access to affordable safety nets. Small island states are particularly vulnerable which is why we are very honored that IAJ is hosting this year’s International Conference on Inclusive Insurance in Jamaica and for the first time in the Caribbean. How to reach scale in small countries will be among the key topics that will be discussed at this conference,” Reinhard stated.

Katharine Pulvermacher, Executive Director of the Microinsurance Network, said: “Insurance has the potential to make a significant and enduring contribution to public policy goals and to closing the global people protection gap. Only a tiny fraction of emerging customers and small-scale producers around the world have insurance of any kind, even for smaller, more frequent risks that can have a devastating effect on their economic well-being. This presents a clear opportunity for the insurance sector – one that we conservatively estimate to be worth at least USD 66 billion per year, increasing as the resilience of the people and producers insured flourishes over time. We are delighted to partner again with the Munich Re Foundation and the Insurance Association of Jamaica for this impactful event to support the development of sustainable, inclusive insurance.”

Women In Law Conference – March 8, 2020 (International Women’s Day)

Women In Law Foundation is hosting its conference brunch at the UWI Regional Headquarters, Mona, Kingston on March 8, 2020.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Inspired by HopeResilience, Rise, Roar”.  Its purpose is to celebrate and inspire females from all areas of business and the men who act as bridges.   Part proceeds of this conference will be donated to the Women’s Center Foundation of Jamaica which we have been supporting since inception.  We offer scholarships to enable young ladies to be reintegrated into the school system and progress to realising their dreams.
