Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Project Leader Diether Beuermann Mendoza is reporting that a recent study has revealed that women head 57 per cent of households in Barbados, and account for a significant percentage of the island’s poor when compared to men, revealing a significant gender gap.The study also revealed that the rich households have smaller families and a link was made between poverty and low-quality dwellings, such as those without flush toilets, running water and electricity. The survey was funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and undertaken in collaboration with the Barbados Statistical Service between February 2016 and January 2017. BM
