Signing of UN Women – Private Sector Partnership in support of Women’s Economic Empowerment.
UN Women, the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) and several leading private sector CEOs will this morning come together to sign a UN Women – Private Sector Partnership in support of Women’s Economic Empowerment.
According to UN Women National Programme Coordinator Taitu Heron, in honor of yesterday’s International Women’s day celebrations, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), intends to strengthen collaboration with private sector partners to achieve gender equality, since it is critical to achieving economic growth and sustainable development.
She says the UN system in the Caribbean through the Multi-Country Sustainable Development Framework (MSDF) will support countries in the region in the achievement of the goals, including ending poverty, promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, reducing inequalities within and between countries, and achieving gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls.
Heron says UN Women and the UN Global Compact have partnered to develop the Women’s Empowerment Principles which outline specific actions private sector organisations can take to promote gender equality in business. BM
